Turbulence modification by dispersion of large deformable droplets

چکیده
Dispersion of large deformable droplets in turbulent channel flow is investigated: the fluids are considered of same density and viscosity for a broad range of plausible values of surface tension. Droplets much larger than the Kolmogorov length scale are released in a channel flow; the turbulent flow is computed with pseudo-spectral Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS), while phase interactions are described with a Phase Field Model (PFM). It is shown that droplets segregation toward the center of the channel is promoted by deformability in particular, for the considered Weber numbers (ratio between inertia and surface tension), droplets do not deposit on the walls. The turbulent flow is modified by the presence of the droplets: for small values ofWe the wall drag is increased with respect to the single phase flow. The wall drag enhancement reduces increasingWe and its time evolution depends on the droplets coalescence and breakup rates. © 2015 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

Achieving diffraction limited imaging with future ground-based optical telescopes will require adaptive optics for correction of atmospheric turbulence and also efficient techniques for atmospheric dispersion compensation. متن کاملExperimental and Modelling Investigations of Droplet Dispersion in a Turbulent Jet
The turbulent dispersion of non-evaporating droplets in an axisymmetric round jet issuing from a nozzle is investigated both experimentally and theoretically. The experimental data set has a well-defined inlet boundary with low turbulence intensity at the nozzle exit, so that droplet dispersion is not affected by the transport of nozzle-generated fluctuating motion into the jet, and is influenc...

The presentation will briefly review a Lagrangian model for deforming droplets in turbulence, in which the cumulative deformation of fluid elements at small scales is crucial. In particular, we show how knowledge about the statistical distribution of finite-time Lyapunov exponents (FTLEs) can be used to find a critical Capillary number above which droplets will break up. Probability distributio...

Assessing the risk of transmitting the corona virus is important for protecting public health under the COVID-19 epidemic. Public transportation such as bus and metro wagon, are the most important source of COVID 19 dispersion. In the last decade, numerical simulation plays important roles in predicting. In this case study, by a combination of numerical simulation and artificial intelligence, t...
